Perkins & Sons is a family-run rum business built on the legacy of the Cozier and Perkins families who have been a part of Barbados' development since 1635, long before there was a sugar industry here.

Rebuilt at Hopewell Plantation by Greg Cozier, our re-engineered distillery site has been part of the island’s sugar and rum story since the very beginning and represents a true Barbados artisanal distillery, where rum production is part of an agricultural process, not an industrial one.

Greg's grandfather I.O.C. Perkins founded the original Perkins & Sons rum ageing, blending, bottling and distribution business in Roebuck Street, Bridgetown in 1944, one of dozens of similar merchant traders located in the capital, exporting sugar and rum and importing the general provisions Barbados' survival depended on.  I.O.C.'s father J.E. Perkins was the manager of Mount Gay plantation and distillery from 1910 until his death in 1923, passing on the culture to his son Ivan.  

On the Cozier side of the family, every generation since John, who owned six acres of land in St. Lucy by our 1678 census, has been involved in the sugar industry.  Greg's father Michael was a factory overseer at Colleton by age 16 and is still involved in the sugar industry to this day, a tremendous source of vital historical information.  His father, Lambert, was a St. Andrew plantation manager from the prior generation; and on and on back through time and places to the beginning of this island.

Perkins & Sons today is led by Greg alongside his sons, Nick and Luke Cozier, his wife Vicki, and long-time partner and logistics lead Spencer Hutchinson. From our stills to your glass, every product we make, whether a hand-crafted gin, bold Bajan unaged rum, a nuanced small-batch release or oak-aged classic rum, comes from the care and dedication of this close-knit team.

Our vision is shaped by many hands and voices, blended from ancient personal accounts of processes and practices as well as first-hand conversations with a fading generation of sugarcane farmers, distillers, and storytellers. Their influence is built into everything we do, not just in the way we honour tradition, but in the way we reinterpret it.

At Perkins & Sons, our goal isn’t just to make exceptional rum and gin. It’s to bottle a piece of Barbados, its resilience, its warmth, its history, and carry it into the future, one pour at a time.
