Hopewell Distillery's Single Batch Release No. 1 is unique in the world of Barbados rum in every possible way.  It is made from fermented blackstrap molasses, dunder and underground stream water that flows through the limestone beneath the distillery. Each fermentation was split in two; the first half pot-distilled to collect low-wines and then those added to the second half for pot-distillation cuts. This 1-1/2 rum distillation method has not been practiced in Barbados, nor anywhere else in the world as far as we can tell, for maybe 200 years and, even then, only by the poorest sugar farmers who could not afford the complex distillery equipment of large plantations. This is not only historically important but also brings a new depth and complexity of flavour that is impossible with continuous column distillation but also difficult with double pot distillation and double-retort pot distillation. Only 400 bottles exist, every one hand-numbered.  For either the rum explorer or collector this bottling is a special treat.
